Tweedale were commissioned initially to design the Sports Hall in a theme that responds to the architecture of the school’s existing listed buildings built in the 1930’s, both in scale and detail.
Distant views of the north elevation across a valley were of particular consideration.
A brick clad portal frame supports a profiled metal roof. The inner skin to the Hall is in fair faced blockwork to 2metres.
The building was published in the Architects Journal.
The Swimming Pool was built as a second phase located adjacent to the sports hall to form a courtyard which is a feature of the school complex.
In design and scale, the pool building compliments the sports hall and together the two new buildings complete the design concept for this part of the school site.
The building has a steel portal frame with brick cladding. It has an exposed timber decked ceiling. The pool is 25 metres long and the building also contains an indoor rifle range.
