MDG Architects and Tweedale deal agreed

As one of the most established and respected names in architecture in the West Midlands, we are proud to announce a bright future following a new association with Birmingham’s MDG Architects.

Tweedale has become part of the widely respected MDG Architects in a move that will allow the practice to expand its operation nationally and significantly within the Midlands area, a location where Tweedale has had a strong presence for several decades.

Mike Bates, Consultant Architect to the company, said: “The Tweedale name is recognised for a strong tradition of professional architectural practice dating back more than 40 years. Over the decades, success has come from a number of factors including high standards of design and service together with the close working relationships we build with clients.

“Through this new alliance with MDG Architects, Tweedale can maintain its presence in Wolverhampton, and service clients throughout the region and nationwide.”

Darrel Smallman, Managing Director of MDG Architects, said: “Mike and I have known each other for a number of years, and I fully recognise and respect the reputation the Tweedale name carries.

“Acquiring the Tweedale name will be an asset to MDG Architects, complementing and reinforcing both elements of the business and allowing greater diversification as we look to increase our operation into new areas.”

Tweedale has operated across a wide variety of sectors, with particular expertise in education, healthcare, office and commercial, as well as industrial and distribution. Among most recent high-profile projects has been the transformation of the former Coniston House office building in Wolverhampton. The landmark building, which is now known as Belvedere Residence, has been converted into 42 luxury one and two-bedroom apartments.

Tweedale was also responsible for the design of new HQ offices for Wedge Group Galvanizing Ltd. This involved converting an historic Willenhall school with its iconic clock tower into Wedge Group’s new headquarters

Meanwhile, MDG Architects is recognised internationally as a specialist in the automotive sector and is currently brand guardian for BMW UK and a panel architect for Jaguar Land Rover. Significantly in recent years, and following a move into Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, MDG has expanded the business to include other key sectors including healthcare, public sector and residential, thus making the additional experience offered by Tweedale a significant and complementary contribution.
