Construction Starting on New £14m Birmingham School

We are delighted to announce that construction of our new £14m Skilts SEN Hallmoor School, in Birmingham, has now begun and will be completed in 2020. The school was originally built and opened post-war in 1952 using a concrete frame and brick cladding throughout the building which that has now been demolished.

The school has been designed for a specific end user with a view to relocating their old school which is outside of the Birmingham Borough back inside the City boundary. The school will cater for up to 140 Primary SEN children with a variety of learning and behavioural issues.

Tweedale, now part of MDG, prepared the initial feasibility study on behalf of Balfour Beatty in response to the EDSI brief to provide the additional spaces for the specific end user.

Construction commencing on Instarmac Office

We are excited to announce that construction has now commenced on our project for Instarmac, working with Interclass PLC.

The project comprises of the construction of a new 3 storey office building, associated car parking and landscaping for Instarmac Group PLC. The works are due to complete at the end of spring 2020.

First stage of building work finished at Birmingham’s Victoria School

New facilities that will help disabled pupils be more independent have been created at a Birmingham school thanks to architects at Tweedale.

Youngsters at Victoria School and Specialist Arts College are now enjoying the new hygiene area, which has been created as part of extensive building work taking place at the Northfield school. The next phase of work is still taking place with construction firm Balfour Beatty to create five new classrooms, which are expected to be completed this summer.

A Victorian building in Wolverhampton, which was given a new lease of life to become a learning hub for students, has been shortlisted for a prestigious architecture award.

The Elite Centre for Manufacturing Skills (ECMS) Hub has been shortlisted in the Building Conservation and Regeneration categories at this year’s RICS West Midlands awards.

Pupils move into new school

Youngsters at West Heath Primary School in Birmingham are today stepping foot into their brand new, modern school, after work has been completed on a two-storey building on the site of the existing school.

The project has been delivered thanks to the partnership between Acivico, Tweedale and Balfour Beatty.

Designed by Tweedale, the new building is steel-framed with SIPS (Structural Insulated Panel System), which consist of timber panels from sustainable sources with an insulating foam core. The key benefits of SIPS are insulation, air-tightness and speed of build, as the SIPs are manufactured off-site in factories. These combined factors result in a building system that is strong, energy efficient and cost effective.

Victorian schoolhouse modernised with creative renovation

A Victorian school in Erdington has been given a new lease of life thanks to a successful modernisation scheme and extension. 

The challenging construction project at Osborne School has been designed by Tweedale Architects, based in Wolverhampton working with Acivico and Balfour Beatty. The scheme now provides the school with a large, two storey classroom extension. Meanwhile, the existing Victorian buildings were modernised through a series of alterations and renovation work. Read Full Story

Community and students to benefit from improved school facilities

A large, multi-use sports hall and studio will soon be available for use by the Wolverhampton community as part of improvement works to a local school. 

The hall extension at Stowlawn Primary School in Bilston is part of a larger overhaul that will see the school building transformed by the summer of 2019, providing both the school and the local community with a versatile space for group activities and events. 

Responding to a need for more modern facilities accessible for use by the wider public, as well as greater capacity to cope with increased numbers of students, the major renovation project is being delivered by Wolverhampton-based architect Tweedale in a partnership with Kier Group.

First phase finished on facelift for Wolverhampton school

A Wolverhampton primary school has begun 2019 with improved facilities following the completion of the first phase of a major construction project.

Spring Vale Primary School, located on Kenilworth Crescent, now has an additional classroom for year six pupils as well as a larger, modernised kitchen. More work will take place over the next few months to revitalise the nursery along with reception areas and staff rooms.

The project is being delivered by Wolverhampton-based architect Tweedale in a partnership with Kier Group. Work is due to be completed by the spring.

Innovative design turns the tables on old school hall

Snazzy retractable tables have stolen the spotlight in our latest school development, where creative thinking was key to providing a multi-purpose hall for pupils. 

The brand new facility at Yardleys School in Birmingham needed to be versatile, as it will be used for events, PE and sports lessons, school productions, exams and, of course, dinner.

Retractable tables, provided by Versa, will prove a fantastic time and labour saver, enabling the new space to be quickly and easily changed around to suit a variety of uses.

Hotel extension tests our team’s expertise

Our technical expertise and creativity were recently tested in project that has added 18 new bedrooms plus ancillary facilities to a hotel in the centre of Bicester.

Cherwell District Council appointed Tweedale to plan the conversion of a second floor over the town’s public library into extra bedrooms for a Travelodge, knowing our team excels in finding solutions for complex projects.

The 53-room hotel was originally completed in 2015 as part of the council’s regeneration of the Franklin’s Yard area of the town, which also saw a new library facility, restaurants, retail units and office space introduced to the area.

Extension completed at Shropshire hospital

Bridgnorth Community Hospital has officially opened a new extension that will allow dementia patients much-needed space to spend with their family.

The extension to the Agnes Campbell Ward was overseen by Tweedale and consists of a 29sq m room being constructed in a yard that is bound on all four sides.

The Agnes Campbell ward is a twenty-five bedded ward and is able to accommodate patients of mixed gender and ages, however, the patients are predominately elderly and normally require a period of rehabilitation to enable them to return home.
